Arguably the best location in the UK for a beach holiday! World famous Croyde beach, award winning Woolacombe and Saunton Sands and many other blue flag beaches are all within a 15 minute drive of Little Comfort Farm. North Devon boasts some of the largest, most unspoilt and memorable beaches in the UK, not to mention the associated dunes. Braunton Burrows is one of the largest sand dune systems in the British Isles and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
In 2022 North Devon was formally announced as the 12th World Surfing Reserve, the first in the UK and only the second in Europe. The North Devon World Surfing Reserve covers a world-class surf zone stretching across approximately 30 km of coastline. Its high density of outstanding surf, at iconic breaks such as Croyde, Saunton, Woolacombe (all within 15-20 minute drive of Little Comfort Farm), and Lynmouth (40 minute drive), caters to wave-riders of all tastes and styles. Learn to surf, perfect your technique or enjoy advanced waves. North Devon is the ultimate playground for surfers.
If you are looking for a golf break, Little Comfort Farm is a great place to base yourself. Two fabulous championship courses Saunton Golf Club and Royal North Devon are just down the road and two further courses, Ilfracombe Golf Club with stunning sea views and Portmore Golf Park near Barnstaple are nearby.
Our nearby coastline boasts numerous climbs, whether you be into traditional climbing, slab climbing or bouldering. Locations include the famous Baggy Point, Croyde Bay Coves and Down End, all at Croyde (20 minute drive from us), Ockham Bay at Mortehoe (20 minute drive) and numerous further climbs at Lynton (40 minute drive) and a huge number around the Hartland Peninsula all within an hour’s drive.
Nature trails, beach walks, pub walks, a wild day on exmoor. Walkers are spoilt for choice. Aside from the stunning walks on our farm, take a stroll on the beach, a climb through dunes, explore the south west coast path, the traffic free Tarka Trail or take a round trip to our local pub and back! We have lots of great walking maps in our farm shop for inspiration.
In our local village, Braunton you can hop onto the Tarka Trail which is an entirely traffic-free 32 mile cycle trail running from Braunton southwards to Meeth. The flat and family-friendly trail travels through beautiful countryside, offering stunning views across the estuaries of the River Taw and Torridge with many picnic spots, cafes and pubs along the route. Ever dreamed of galloping along a beach, cantering through the surf or riding alongside wild ponies on Exmoor? Whether you are a novice or experienced rider, horse riding is great activity to add to your Little Comfort Farm holiday itinerary. For beach rides and dune rides, contact Woolacombe Riding Stables who cater for beginners and experienced riders.
Our local Marwood Hill Gardens (10 minute drive) feature a beautiful 20 acre private valley with quaint tea room and plant sales and at Tapeley Park (30 minute drive) you’ll discover a stately home and gardens with one of the oldest permaculture gardens in the UK and an organic tea shop! RHS Garden Rosemoor (45 minute drive) is a magical place with stunning gardens, restaurant, tea rooms and lots of events. Our local National Trust property is Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (30 min drive).
Lots to keep budding zoologists happy close to us, including Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (20 min drive), Exmoor Zoo (30 min drive), Quince Honey Farm (40 min drive) and the North Devon Bird of Prey Centre (45 min drive).
